Vinyl Siding Provides High Quality Weather Protection

In Northern Virginia you have to deal with both cold winters and hot summers. Because of this, Professional Remodeling Group uses only the best brands and manufacturers of top-quality siding to ensure that your home has the maximum defense against the elements available.

The siding on your home, in conjunction with your roof, serves as the first line of defense against wind, rain, sun, and snow. By choosing a high-quality vinyl siding, you can greatly improve the R-Rating (a measure of your insulation’s ability to protect the interior of your home from heat and cold) of your home, thereby increasing its overall energy efficiency. As a result, your home will stay cooler in the summer and also warmer in the winter at a much lower cost.

Why Choose Vinyl?

  • Strength – Vinyl siding is an incredibly strong, durable product that has been constructed from PVC plastic resin.
  • Durability – In addition to its notable strength, vinyl siding is durability due to the fact that it will not rust, dent or conduct electricity. Many homeowners have found that their vinyl siding can withstand abuse such as getting hit with a golf ball or baseball.
  • Resilience – In contrast to its wood counterparts, vinyl siding will not warp, rot, chip or scratch in the same way. It does not react strongly to humidity, rain, sun or wind. Because of this, high-quality vinyl manufacturers back their products up with a strong warranty.
  • Great Looks – There are a staggering number of vinyl siding styles, colors and designs available for you to choose from. Because it is a man-made material, it can literally be manufactured in nearly any color or style that you desire. Because of this, many of the most popular styles of vinyl siding have been designed to imitate the look and feel of wood very well. This gives you the opportunity to take advantage of the looks of wood siding, with the benefits of vinyl.
  • Affordability – Because it is a man-made product, vinyl siding is much less expensive than wood, aluminum and other options that are available. Depending on the brand, style and type that you choose, there is a vinyl siding option available for every budget.

At Professional Home Remodeling Group, we take pride in installing and repairing your vinyl siding right the first time every time. Because of its important role in the integrity of your home, it is paramount that your siding be installed correctly. Whenever your siding repair or installation is completed, it should not only protect your home from the weather, but also make it look great. Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy hit right when we were working on a home addition job. We had popped off the roof to work on a second story addition, when Hurricane Sandy started to roll in. We were able to create an infrastructure with wood and tarp to secure the top of the home for the 80 mph winds that came through.

The addition size was 18 x 30. We used 3 layers of tarp, which included one 20 x 30 tarp for the interior, one 30 x 50 tarp for the addition, and one 40 x 60 cover for the main roof and addition. The tarps were tacked down with 2 x 4 and 2 x 6 to help take the high winds. If they were only nailed down, the tarps would have ripped. Next, we built a gable inside to imitate the roof structure for runoff. All of the openings on the house were then sealed with plywood on top of the tarp. This created a protective barrier and sealed the room from wind blown rain. In order to protect from carbon monoxide build up, we ran flex HVAC extension from the HVAC flute to the exterior. The setup held up throughout the 24hours of wind and rain, 8am Monday to 8am Tuesday.

When you choose Professional Remodeling Group for your home additions and remodeling needs, you can trust that we’ll be there to protect your investment in the harshest of environments. Here is a link to video of the structure we create below the tarps, Hurricane Sandy Addition Structure Video. Check out the photos below.

How To Choose a Good Roofing Contractor

Your roof is the most important part of your home. It literally is the roof over your head, and so choosing a good roofing contractor to work on this area is crucial. Choosing a good roofing contractor includes many important elements states Professional Remodeling Group a local contractor located in Fairfax, Northern Virginia area. Some of these elements include ensuring that your roofing contractor knows how to deal with problem spots, has knowledge about a variety of roof covering products, knows good roofing practices, and is competent to give sound advice on products and procedures.

One of the best way to find credible companies for roofing jobs, is through a referral. This way you can get the names of companies from family and friends who you know have done a good job in the past. Be aware that the contractor you choose should be a member of the Better Business Bureau, and this is also a great resource for getting names of credible contractors.  The Better Business Bureau can also verify the roofing contractors current status and compliant history.

An initial interview is extremely important in order to discuss the project and the qualifications or experience of the roofing contractor.

Pay attention to the company representative who should be able to answer your questions and be confident that they can help you with your roofing problems. Also ensure that you get crucial information from the contractor including their past experience, licensing/bonding, business license numbers, and references. Insurance is also an important aspect which is often overlooked when choosing a roofing contractor. You must be sure that the roofing contractor is validly insured so that there is assurance in case something does go wrong.

Once you are confident that you have a roofing contractor who is knowledgeable and experienced, the next step is to start negotiating a contract. Prior to negotiating with a roofing contractor, they should provide you with an estimate or proposal on the work to be done. A proposal is a more detailed offer which lists products, prices, services, designs, and a few different estimates depending on the level of materials and designs chosen. An estimate will usually only involve one number.

Roofing contractors are usually chosen in a rush because roofing problems are often emergencies and require immediate action. However, make sure to take the time to get a few estimates and start researching the middle numbers. Cheapest is not always better. Remember that you get what you pay for, and although a roofing contractor may offer you a cheaper number in the beginning, this may end up costing you extra money in the long run. Therefore, the middle estimates are usually the best way to go.

Ensure that everything discussed with your roofing contract is put in writing. Professional Remodeling Group a Northern Virginia roofing company warns that it is foolish to depend on verbal assurances made by your roofing contractor. Therefore, the contract should contain every detail from which buildings permits are necessary, a schedule of dates for start to completion, which materials will be used, warranties, to site procedures, liens and the names of any other subcontractors who may be present at the job. It is important to get a warranty which is written into the contract. Also in compliance with the warranty, if something does need further repair the repairs should be done immediately as a matter of contract so you are not waiting with a faulty roof in case of a problem.

Follow these steps to choosing a good roofing contractor who will handle the most important part of your home with pride and confidence.
